Yes, this thing was made in China but what are we going to do, they all are. I have used this unit several times since I got it and it rides in my SUV everywhere. You can fill up truck tires and smaller items like bicycle tubes just fine. This model has auto shut off so you can use it by only squeezing the triggle, you don't have to keep turning the unit on and off. I like this because I can have the trigger part far away from the pump where the on off swicth is. The unit must be connect to a car battery to work. FYI> I contacted the company here in the USA and they said you "can't" make it run from a transformer if you want to rig it to work from a home recepticle. They also answered a number of other questions, were quick to reply to my email and seemed customer service oriented. I would recommend buying from this manufacturer. The unit seems of very good and solid quality. The hose disconnects from the trigger and from the pump so if you want to change the components out, you could. The triggle with the guage on it is quite nice and heavy and better than I thought it would be. The only complaints I have with it is, I wish I didn't have to have it attached to the car for operation. It would be great if I could plug it in to a wall receptical because it is so handy, quick and easy to use. I also have never been a fan of the type of valve that is used in this unit to attach it to a valve stem. There are only so many ways to do it but trying to hold the valve tightly enough on a stem while using a great deal of strength to flip the switch closed is something that has left me wanting since I was a kid trying to pump up my BMX tire. It works great, I just like the service station type valve better. Maybe it could be changed out later I guess. Overall good product, highly recommended.

While it functions exactly as advertised and does a great job of inflating the tires on my truck and travel trailer, in my opinion it's a bit overpriced for the level of quality as received.

I definitely don't mind paying for high-quality, and for the selling price of this portable compressor, that's exactly what I expected to get. However, my unit arrived with bare stranded wire exposed exposed for about 1/2" next to the inline fuse in the power cord. This appears to have occurred when the paired power cord wire was pulled apart and stripped during assembly at the factory. My unit also had some tiny spots of surface rust on the diamond plate base (which has the appearance of stainless steel but must be made of chrome-plated mild steel). Lastly, the pressure gauge attached to the inflator reads 5psi higher than actual tire pressure as verified by 3 other high-quality tire pressure gauges I have.

While these shortcomings weren't enough to cause me to go through the hassle of returning the unit I received and requesting a replacement, it's disappointing to find these kinds of defects considering the high selling price.

At least it does perform as advertised, seems well engineered, and is very useful.

I am generally satisfied with this air compressor. The clamps are well made, unlike the cheap ones on the 300P version. The automatic function is convenient. However, I still wish the power cables and the yellow hose were longer than they are now. I also wish the gauge numbers increment by 10, not 20.

I have owned several compressors over the years and all of them were very slow when I aired up my tires.Also,they were very loud and would jump around like a jack hammer.Airing up my tires was a slow tedious process.I went on the net in search for a high performance portable air compressor.My search lead me to Viair air compressors.They have many air compressors to choose from,so I decided to purchase the VIAIR 400P-Automatic Function Portable Compressor.When I first used this air compressor to air up my tires,I was shocked and amazed at how quickly I filled up my tires.This thing is a monster!It felt like I was using a gas station air compressor. I was blowed away at how much air this thing puts out.The other inferior compressors that I owned before don't have nothing on this air compressor.I am extremely pleased with my purchased.There are many things that I love about this air compressor.It is solidly built from mostly metal,also it is quiet and don't jump all over the placed.I like the gas station sytle tire gun and I really like the automatic shut off feature on this air compressor.This feature save you from having to turning off the unit after you fill up each tire,you can quickly go from tire to tire and be done in no time. I would highly recommend this great product to individuals who are sick and tired of those inferior toy air compressors.If it was possible I would not give this air compressor 5 stars,I would give it 10 stars!

Easily aired up 8 tires without skipping a beat Jan 16, 2012

Purchased this for use in a Jeep Wrangler. After airing down 2 jeeps (1 on 32" tires, the other 35"), we were able to air up all 8 tires in a relatively short amount of time. A bit pricey, but this is in a different league than the cheap cigarette lighter compressors. This one does connect directly to the battery, but the cord was long enough to reach both jeeps tires when they were parked side by side.
