4Works!! Iphone Approved!  Feb 15, 2010
By Rene Gonzalez "regzgz"
I was a bit concern about this product due to the low score reviews about it, even then I decided to go ahead and give the Gigaset a chance.
The included quick Start Guide is very limited but in this case is a plus, there is more info on the web site for advance features in case you want to go deeper. I did the setup with two Iphone's, this device works with the Iphone with no problems. The only thing that may make your calls drop is the working distance from the Gigaset and the Iphone, you need to separate the two devices from each other by at least two feet to avoid interference and dropped calls. The quality of the calls is great, one feature I love is the ability to see the caller ID from the person calling in the handset, also, the ability to check your voice mail.
Overall the device works better than I expected, I had some dropped calls in the past but it was due to the cellphone reception on the other side.
The other reviews seem to be about people not knowing how to setup the device properly, the setup takes less than five minutes.

4Been looking for such an interface for two years  May 20, 2010
By Frank Angel "Dir., Brooklyn Center Cinema"
The Gigabite One seems to have had a fireware upgrade that increases the distance limitation for the bluetooth connection. My unit locks to the bluetooth signal as far away as 30ft.

Anyone who uses just a cellfone for their primary household service in a home or apartment any bigger than a studio knows the Prime Rule -- when the cell rings, unless you have had it Crazy-Glued to your body, it will be in a room where you are NOT, and usually the one farthest away from you...in a two story house, definately on the OTHER floor. This unit lets me interface my cell service to my entire home system -- we have standard telephone extensions parallel wired to every room. And the HUGE plus, with the Gigaset One, I get to talk on a real telephone phone that I can hold firmly in one hand against my ear and mouth as it was designed, unlike cell phones which are designed for small size but not for comfortable telephone conversation. Now I am able to use the cell phone provider but still get that service extended to those standard telephones with their comfortably designed handsets. In fact as far as clarity, I was very surprised that the sound quality is BETTER than with my cell -- how is that possible? I attribute it to the fact that I am using a REAL telephone handset where they are able to use much more robust speakers in the ear piece instead of the miniscule things in the cell phone so the sound is better reproduced. The cell never sounded this good.

I think the product will be the answer for all those young people just starting out for whom paying two phone service providers is just too expensive. Not to mention in this economy, many people will be thinking long and hard about getting rid of one of those two services and of the two, the more likely one to go will be their land-line service as the cell is the more versatile of the two. The Gigaset One certainly gives you the best of both worlds -- cell service versatility but standard land-line comfort in many rooms of their homes.

Minor negatives that they could easily fix: 1) allowing the user to assign the distinctive rings to each of the incoming services and making them more distinctive. 2) Also to be able to assign which service is the default when you pick up an extension would be nice. Other than that, I totally love it and already don't see how I could ever have done without it.

BTW, installation was basically a matter of just pluging it in -- very very user-friendly.

1Won't work with Windows &  Jan 24, 2011
By PatnPat
When I first installed the Gigaset One it worked fine (although the ring tone was a bit obnoxious). I changed computers; and my new computer runs Windows 7. Guess what!!!!!! The Gigaset One Wizard is not compatible with 64 bit operating systems. I cannot update the software, and my phone will not bluetooth to the Gigaset One. If you are running an old 32 bit OS, it works OK......just don't change to Windows 7.

1Fails to deliver  Dec 24, 2010
By Tom Gauger "Retired Broadcaster"
The Gigaset One has been around for a while and promises to connect your cell phone to a house-wired POTS line. When set up correctly it makes outgoing calls effortlessly, starting with a dial tone. Even an old rotary dial phone worked.
The problem is that it would not receive calls. It paired nicely with several cell phones and none of them were able to get the local phone, even directly connected to the Gigaset, to ring.
The Gigaset One upgrade software fails to function on Windows 7 and the suggested Internet link mentioned in the instructions is no longer functional.
Pass this one up.

1The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly truth about the Gigaset One!  Nov 18, 2011
By Eric Stamey
THE GOOD:
The Gigaset one is manfactured by XLink and is actually the XLink BTTN. Unfortunately, the Gigaset One was commissoned by Siemens but now Siemens has liquidated the device and dropped support and uploads for it. So, if you update the software using a USB Printer cable, the Gigaset One will turn into a XLink Gateway! However, to do this, you have to see the bad...

THE BAD:
When you upload the Gigaset update tool, it sends you to the XLink site where they tell you about how they made the Gigasets for Siemens and that you need to download the XLink update tool to receive their new software. When you get the XLink update tool, you then have to pay XLink, through PayPal, $24.99 to get the software updates. They send you a password to use when you log into their Update tool.

THE UGLY:
With the XLink updates installed, the Gigaset One becomes a XLink Gateway in a Gigaset shell. So, if you can get a Gigaset for free or really, really discounted, then it may be ok to pay the extra $24.99 update fee and enjoy your new Gigaset/XLink hybrid, but if you pay close to what a XLink is going for, you might as well just get the XLink and avoid the run-around of support and update issues with the Gigaset.

One Star for the Gigaset being liquidated, having no support, and having to pay an extra $24.99 for software.
Five Stars for the way it performs AFTER paying for the updates and turning it into a XLink gateway.
