Beautiful Beatrix Jul 16, 2010 Growing up in the middle an Illinois cornfield I was more a "Chicken Little" and "My Friend Flicka" type of kid. It wasn't until as an adult and moved to the big city of Peoria that I was introduced to the delightful Beatrix Potter.
In this DVD, "Miss Potter", her life is fictionalized to fit the big screen's time allottment and format thereby taking creative license with much of her true biography. Purism aside, it is a beautiful, lush and imaginative film filled with gorgeous period costumes, manners, morales, and scenery. Her country home in the Lake District is so visually stunning it makes watching this film worth it, even if you were to dislike the rest of the movie. Rene Zellweger and Ewan MacGregor fill out their roles beautifully as does the supporting cast especially Emily Watson as MacGregor's sister and Barbara Flynn and Bill Patterson as Beatrix's parents.
Although rated "PG" I would not have a problem watching it with younger children and Seniors as I found nothing in poor taste. The fact that it is a movie the whole family can gather round and enjoy is worth a star on its own merit.
Enjoy the movie!
One of my favorite movies Jul 15, 2010 Great movie about the life of Beatrix Potter. Acting is OUTSTANDING! A delightful, inspiring and encouraging movie. Artistic and creative "pioneers" or those developing new ideas/products will find it inspiring. Be sure to watch the bonus features about the "fairy tale" story of Potter's worldwide success. One of the few movies I will watch again and again.
Delightful romance - wonderful characters. Jun 13, 2010 Beatrix Potter was a woman born at the perfect time. She challenged the mores of the day and became a strong, independent woman, and successful author of children's books. She was a conservationist and realized the effects of man on the environment; particularly on the countryside she loved so much. "Miss Potter" is much more than a delightful story about a strong woman (Renée Zellweger) and her romance with her publisher (Ewan McGregor).
As good as new. May 09, 2010 This film has to be one of the finest of its genre. Hollywood, in all its glory, would be hard pressed to produce a better film in any category: The actors are superb, especially Renee Zellweger, direction was spot on, cinematography was flawless. In fact I'm going to buy more copies to give to everyone I care about!
MISS POTTER Apr 30, 2010 Miss Potter is a lovely, romantic story of the famous writer of childrens books.
I loved it. It told so much more than I would ever know about this incredible woman. It had everything, music, story and even some animation. I would say children might love it but it does have some intense emotion that they might not understand. I saw it on rental and had to have it.
I went to amazon.com because I knew it was my best chance to get it at a really good price. I did get a good price on a new (not used) dvd. Thank you AMAZON.COM. You are always my first choice when I am looking for somthing special. You always come through.
I would like to note that the seller "Josh (something) did a wonderful job of a quick response and delivery. Sorry Josh I don't have the full billing with me but I think I did already note on your site what a satisfying experience this was.
