what a lovely film.
film is art. art is to enthrall, inspire, deviate from routine life, even if it's done responsibly, historically accurate.
such a sumptuous, magically colorful production. gorgeous...
so, what the heck was all that fuss or controversy about when it came out in 2006, as the u.s. jewish community went nuts over the film and mel gibson, trying to pay off most cinema owners to ban it from being shown? equating Apocalypto as anti-semitic?! what?! it's about the south american indians?! even fiction.
i suppose, anything can be manipulated into anti-political correctness bull. so the real question is, what kind of society is it that bans fiction? now that is much scarier than shutting down mel gibson - he's an amazing director, all his movies are well produced, acted. leave the genius alone.
obviously he was not drunk for 2-3 years when producing such a great work of art. if you take a drunk so serious, and he's usually not, but there are many who are constantly drunk, then you're a biased anti-racist yourself. grow up. get a life. time is precious. don't waste it on the rest of us.
disagreeing does not make one a racist. fact is fact. if you wonder why i write 4 years after the movie came out, well, amazon kept rejecting my comments. now that is pathetic too, since my comments are not racist and there are worse comments on other movies, that promote violence i.e. check feedback on Inglorious Bastards...
hope Amazon is more mature by now, not a banner, but supporter of freedom and free speech.

This is a masterfully created film. The images are exquisite the acting is fantastic and the storyline is powerful. No director can hope to create a better film. If we could currently get other films as good and as well made as this one we would truly be experiencing a new Golden Age of film. Since we aren't films like Apocalypto shine even brighter. The set pieces created for this film are exceptional. This is a masterpiece of a movie.

I saw this movie once and have been trying to find it every since. I will buy it for my collection.
The story line was great. It kept me on the end of my seat. Beautiful scenes and detail. Even some humor. You really want to help the hero make it.

The quality of this film on Blu-Ray is amazing. The colors of the jungle come to life in 1080P. This movie is one of my favorites, an action adventure underdog overcomes all story. The mayan cultural references intrigues me as well. I would recommend this movie, especially in Blu-Ray for anyone on the edge.

I am not going to get to deep into the story. There are a 1000 reviews here and they are extremely positive. Those that aren't focus on the historical innaccuracies. Let's be honest here...if you want to watch a historical documentary...please turn to the HISTORY CHANNEL! Otherwise, this is an adventure set 600 years towards the end of the Mayan civilization. The main character is a young man named Jaguar Paw. He is a fierce hunter, loving husband and father whose world is destroyed when his village is attacked by Mayans. Before his capture, he hides his wife and son in a well. Against all odds he must flee his captors and return to his family before the rains come! What ensues is nothing short of an adrenaline rush! A great movie!
NOW FOR MY BLU RAY THOUGHTS: One word: WOW! This is gorgeous! The colors explode and fill the screen! Lush green jungles, roaring fires, and solar eclipses! This is a visual joy! DEMO DISC! The audio is outstanding as well. All special features from the DVD are carried over. FINAL VERDICT: UPGRADE! A MUST OWN!
