Not for the weekend mechanic Jul 15, 2010 After looking at a couple of comparable products, I chose the Autoloc CK4000 mainly because it did not require the addition of switches. It was ordered and quickly arrived from Amazon.com as advertised.
The product itself was much more misleading. Although each vehicle will present different problems it took almost 10 hours to install into a 2007 Kia Rio (the kit advertises that it can be installed in less than 1 hour).
The wiring to the front doors was too short and approximately 18" had to be added to the wiring harness. The Kia also uses cables (instead of rods) to control the lock/unlock functions of the front doors which presented another challenge.
The instructions from Autoloc were almost non-existent and the website did not offer any additional help. You are pretty much on your own.
After installation the kit seems to work well, but unless you are skilled in some fabrication and soldering techniques, this is something that should be left to the pros.
Great Product.... Amazon Shipped wrong part!! May 17, 2010 I recieved the AutoLoc kit Fast But..... Amazon shipped the wrong kit! Ordered the Autoloc CK4000 4 door powerlock kit w/2 Remotes. They sent the CL4000 kit wich is cheaper and and does not have remotes.
After sending the kit back to Amazon and ordering a kit from a different seller (Summit Racing). I installed the kit. It works great!
Total Garbage May 03, 2010 This kit is a complete and total waste of money. To start, the "detailed instructions" consist of about 1/2 page of writing and a wiring diagram on the backside of the box that this piece of junk kit comes in. The directions are extremely basic and provide nothing that you couldn't gather from common sense or looking at the wiring diagrams and the few crude illustrations provided. The wiring diagram differs from the one that you can download in PDF format from the Hoffman Groups website and both differ slightly from the actual color of some wires in the harness. Tech support is also useless. I waited on hold for 20 minutes just to speak to a tech who could barely answer my questions and sounded as if he was just guessing anyway. He pretty much just agreed with what I said instead of actually answering anything.
The actuators and hardware seem okay, although you pretty much have to guess for yourself what hardware goes with what actuator, and there are no reasons given as to why you get two slightly different hardware setups (different length / type mounting brackets and pushrods, different style actuators at the point of connection to the push rod, etc). The optional wires that come with the 4 door kit are just that, four lengths of wire with no ends on the wires to connect up to the rear door actuators. Looks like I'm either buying ends to match what's on the actuators or cutting off the ends from the actuators and splicing the wires together. It's not a huge deal, but just another example of how poorly thought out this kit is. The other problem with the optional wiring is the length. If I splice both sets of these wires together, I may have a long enough wire to go from one front to one rear door. Note that I am installing this in a Chevy Cavalier, so it is not a very long car to begin with. I'm not sure why they even bothered to put these wires in the "kit", other than to provide another demonstration of how pathetic their attempt at engineering is.
I would absolutely not recommend this product (or this company for that matter) to anyone. If you are looking for a keyless entry kit in the sense of getting everything you need to do the job and having helpful instructions and tech support along the way, please do not waste your money. If you just want to get most of the pieces you need to put keyless entry into your car and are ready to put in alot of time and effort into making it work, this may be a good choice, but be ready to buy additional hardware (wires, mounting hardware) and do alot of critical thinking while decoding their poor excuse for documentation.
I could have went to a junkyard, pulled four actuators and a control module, and I probably would have had a "kit" that was better than what this company has put together. Buyer beware!
I like the door locks Oct 28, 2009 The installation was pretty straight forward. Depending on the size of the car, you may need to splice
wire in for length. It is a very easy install, and well worth it.
Best locks for the $$$ Feb 11, 2009 Well written instructions , although done right they will take a few hours of your time . More than strong enough for any vehicle if you route without binding and very dependable . I like that no switch has to be installed if you want to activate manually , just lock one and all will lock or unlock . The remotes are also easy to operate and well marked . A++++
